Cultural Capital is an independent feature-length documentary that interrogates New York City’s status as an “art capital.” Through the voices of artists and critics, the film traces the evolution of the city’s art scene from radical experimentation to global industry, revealing a struggle over whether art can still challenge the forces reshaping urban life. It explores the complex relationship between the presence of artists and galleries, economic power, and processes of urban transformation that have helped turn the city into a playground for the affluent.
